CKeditor slow and freezes

I thought CKeditor was supposed to be this great, light-weight, high performance upgrade over its predecessor, FCKeditor. But my experience so far is that it's somewhat slower (loading times for the page, when I click buttons, etc.) and that it even freezes at times (for example when I try and add an image).

Is anyone else experiencing these issues with CKeditor? Or is there some setting I need to be adjusting to increase performance?

Try disabling the "spell as you type" (on by default it seems) function under CKeditor's settings (within Drupal). Browse to Site Configuration > CKeditor > edit your profile > Advanced Options > set "Spell Checker" to "No."

The CKeditor spell checker utilizes SCAYT (Spell Check As You Type) technology, which can significantly slow down (and sometimes freeze it appears) CKeditor.
