United Bank Card Rip Off

I just posted about this annual PCI compliance fee and realized I hadn't mentioned the worst part - I have an additional "discount fee" of 1.51% being applied to nearly all my transactions. UBC (United Bank Card) said it's because my clients use business or rewards cards. I find it hard to believe that that many do. My effective discount rate is now somewhere in the ballpark of 4-5% each month. Is that ridiculous or what? Here I was trying to get away from Paypal's high 3% rate.

And earlier I had some weird "UBC" fee that was being applied every month. That's the only thing I've had removed. But I'm asking myself - how many more fees are they going to come up with every month? If I don't scan over my monthly statements with a fine toothed comb I'm bound to get ripped off...

    Worse,

I have the same experience with United Bank Card. Summary of my merchant fees:

    UBC
    $10 monthly statement fee
    $90 annual PCI compliance fee
    4-5% discount rate
Small authorization, capture and other fees

    Authorize.net
$20/ CIM fee (Customer Information Manager)
    $8/ gateway fee

    Total monthly fees = $45.50

Paypal Pro = $30 plus recurring option ($20) = $50/ month, so maybe I will stick with UBC for now...

Isn't Paypal Pro's recurring option $30/ month? So your total with Paypal would be $60/ month, correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm with UBC as well. I've looked at some alternatives, ranging from Paypal to Quickbooks, and the final monthly cost always ends up higher...guess I'll just have to suck up the small fees here and there.

The only beef I have is that UBC keeps referring me to my "sales representative" (the account manager that signed me up with UBC to begin with). The problem is that they're impossible to reach! Here's their website: http://cpanelx.us/contact.htm

The # they list (and UBC gives me as well): 206-350-0008 gives nothing but a fax tone. The website is very crummy looking, and as far as I can tell they're a hosting company (cPanel consulting) that is either run out of a garage or has gone out of business. Has anyone heard of these guys?

I was with United Bank Card (UBC) and I had similar issues. I found a really great merchant provider that spent time with me and really saved me a lot of money. If you're new business be careful with United Bank Card (UBC) contract because they have a very high cancellation fee. $250 or $35 multiplied by the remaining months on your contract whichever is higher.

If you're interested Jimmy D really helped me out and has lots of solutions others told me I couldn't even get or we very expensive with. Plus they have no annual fees and is willing to work with me to customize a program for my business. More importantly I can call him when I need him even on the weekends. He's with www.worldwidetms.com or 888-918-8472.

In reply to "I'm with UBC as well" - I also signed up with UBC and was given that contact number. I believe the company that signed you up is the same as mine - UnitedBankServices.com. Contact them and see if they can lower your discount rate. They should be able to do so at least for the additional discount rate that is added for corporate cards.

My contract with UBC does not have a cancellation fee and I've been happy with them so far (aside from all the complicated fees, they still add up to less than what some of their competitors charge). The customer service reps answer the phone within minutes every time I call.

Most of the field reps are out on the field visiting Retail stores, so if you have not tried leaving a voice-mail, maybe you should and I am sure they will work with you on your rates. Although Authorize.net gateway at $8 is a good deal as I am paying a lot more. I hear positive things about UBC and will switch to them at the end of my costco contract.

I'm about to eat the $250 early termination fee. And I've also, now that I've looked carefully at my statements I see that I've been charged a lot each month. Don't do business with United Bank Card. They are a rip off!!

You all need to call me because a lot of your problems lie with the Independent Sales Office that represent United Bank Card. A lot of the problems comes from greedy ISOs who get to set your rates. If you want to go to Paypal, there is something seriously wrong with your ISOs because they just want you to pay them more. You're not actually paying United Bank Card any more than you think.

My number is 678-591-8701 and I can explain every single fee and how to avoid them. ****, I'll show you can save a lot more on processing.
