Asus Windows 7 Upgrade

I purchased an Asus Essentio desktop over the summer, running Windows Vista 64-bit Premium Home edition, and received a free Windows 7 Upgrade. The upgrade has arrived, and I ran the Windows update advisor to uninstall programs it recommended.

In the Asus instructions, it says to update the ODD firmware of my optical drive and points me to a link on the support site. Problem is, there's four different files with strange technical names. How do I know which one I need?

    Hi asterix,

This is most likely a question for Asus, but we'll try to help. Assuming the file names correspond to the model numbers of different optical (DVD) drives, you'll want to find out the model number of your desktop's optical drive.

To do so, browse to the Start Menu, right-click on "Computer" and select "Properties." Select "Device Manager" at top left, and then Click the "+" icon next to "DVD/CD-ROM Drives" to find out the model number of your optical drive. If the optical drive description includes "GH40N", for example, you'll want to download the firmware corresponding to "GH40N".

Hope this helps! If not, I suggest you consult with Asus support.

    Hey guys

I just got my win 7 home premium upgrade media and I tried to do a clean install. It's giving the following error: Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation.

I recovered Windows Vista back and tried to upgrade to Windows 7, but it's getting frozen. I have a ujj 880as system. I don't know what to do. Can anyone please help me out here?

    Thanks guys

    Hi there,

First, make sure your Windows copies are legitimate (ie. not pirated). Second, we've never heard of a ujj 880as system. Can you specify the manufacturer and system model?

Once we have some more info we can help out more.
