I can't log in as "administrator" onto Joomla!

    Hello There!
    I am using Mepis Linux 8.0. I recently installed Joomla and I can't log in as "administrator." I opened up the database with phpMyAdmin and MySQL Administrator and I found that there are two users tables: bak_users and jos_users and both tables are empty. There are no users defined. I used this script "UPDATE jos_users SET password = MD5( 'new password' ) WHERE jos_users.username = "admin"; but MySQL says that there is not database specified. I would rather like to edit the table directly, but what table should I edit? Why do you think that both tables are empty?
    I would appreciate very much your advise.
