I recently upgraded my Mozilla Thunderbird 2 to 3, and in the process was asked to upgrade my Lightning calendar add-on from version 0.9 to 1.0b1. I've done this, and in the "add on" section of Thunderbird it says I need to restart Thunderbird for the Lightning installation/ upgrade to complete.

Whenever I do this, Thunderbird restarts, but there's no sign of lightning and the "restart" prompt is there again....any ideas how to get Lightning to work with Thunderbird 3?

Try closing down all your applications and restarting your PC. This is a good tactic to use whenever something doesn't seem to be installing or upgrading correctly.

Once you're back in Thunderbird, you should see your Lightning (Calendar) bar appear on the right, and you'll notice two small icons for calendar and tasks in the upper right, to the right of the tabs (the old location was larger icons in the lower left sidebar - you can restore that view if you prefer).
