Drupal Junkie here, with a Wordpress question (I know, blasphemous!) I've got a Wordpress (3.1.2) install on one of my sites, and recently had my client's IP blocked by the server firewall. Their solution was to turn off the mod_security, which completely killed the site (loading any page, including admin area, threw a 500 Internal Server Error error.

After some troubleshooting and downtime I traced down to a line "SecFilterEngine Off" in the .htaccess file. After removing that line, everything loads as normal. I hope this helps someone that is suffering from the "500 Internal Server Error" error as well!

In your WP dashboard, browse to Settings > Discussion, and uncheck "Allow people to post comments on new articles" to have them disabled by default on new pages.

Note that this will not disable them on existing pages that already have comments enabled (in case you're trying to stop the flow of spam). You'll need to browse to your posts and "bulk edit" them to disable the comments on all the pages, one group of pages at a time.

How do I completely disable comments on new pages? I see that I'm able to turn them off individually on pages, but is there a default setting I can use to turn them off by default?
