For my site documentaryconnection.com I have a one banner adsense ad.In internet explorer I inconsistently get the message "an add-on for this website failed to run”
when the page loads.

This is extremely annoying as my adsense ad will not display when I get this message. Ads display properly
in firefox or chrome. Just to see if the problem was my laptop only I went to several other computers and had the same problem (adsense displays fine in firefox & chrome
but not internet explorer).

I finally discovered that if I go to add-ins in internet explorer and disable "Shockwave Flash Object" everything is good. This fixes the problem everytime.The issue here is that everyone and their dog has "Shockwave Flash Object"
installed on their computers and it is causing adsense ads to not display properly or at least that is what appears to be causing the problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

I keep getting an error message in Internet Explorer 9 that "an add-on for this website failed to run." It shows up in the little yellow notification bar at the bottom of a page whenever I try and load one of my pages that should be displaying my Adsense ads (and consequently, the ad doesn't appear). Since Adsense uses JavaScript, I'm guessing maybe this is a scripting issue with IE?

Any ideas? I'm not running into this problem with Firefox.

I'm a dummy! The problem didn't have to do with two PNG's being layered on top of each other, as I noticed when I removed one of them and my Views slideshow (Drupal site) still showed the white background PNG in IE 8.

The solution was to disable Clear-Type in the IE settings of my Views Slideshow (View, Basic Settings > Style > Settings > Internet Explorer Options > ClearType (and ClearType Background). Works like a charm now <img src="http://forum.werockyourweb.com/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

You can try this code for your image in CSS:

img {
    background: transparent;
    -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#00FFFFFF,endColorstr=#00FFFFFF)"; /* IE8 */
    filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#00FFFFFF,endColorstr=#00FFFFFF);   /* IE6 & 7 */
    zoom: 1;

}

I can't seem to get PNG transparency working in Internet Explorer 8. Actually, PNG transparency works, but if I lay another transparent PNG on top of the first one, the top layer PNG gets a white background, which looks terrible.

My temporary solution is to simply merge the two into one image, but considering that Firefox and other browsers are able to layer transparent PNG's, I'm wondering why this isn't possible yet in IE? Maybe in IE 9?

Believe it or not I had the exact same issue. I'm glad to see it's a universal problem and not just my PC.

Anyways, here's how I went about solving the issue. Both the Authorize.net JS and everything are still intact and working:

<!-- (c) 2005, 2010. Authorize.Net is a registered trademark of CyberSource Corporation -->

<a href="https://verify.authorize.net/anetseal/?pid=&rurl=https%3A//www.example.com" onclick="window.open(this.href, 'AuthorizenetVerification', 'resizable=no, location=no, menubar=no, scrollbars=no, status=no, toolbar=no, fullscreen=no, dependent=no, width=550, height=400, left=250, top=250, status'); return false"><img style="float: right; margin-left: 1em;" alt="Authorize.net Seal" src="AuthorizeNetSeal.gif" title="Authorize.net Seal" /></a>

So basically all I did is right-click on the Authorize.net seal, save it to my PC and then upload it to my website. And I right-clicked and copied and pasted the link destination. I omitted personal details in the above example as well.

Good luck!

I finally setup my own e-commerce environment with shopping cart and payment gateway, etc. My gateway is Authorize.net. I'm trying to add their seal to my website, and it works fine in Mozilla, but crashes Firefox.

Here's the code (my personal details removed):

<!-- (c) 2005, 2010. Authorize.Net is a registered trademark of CyberSource Corporation -->
<div class="AuthorizeNetSeal"> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">var ANS_customer_id="";</script> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="//verify.authorize.net/anetseal/seal.js" ></script> <a href="http://www.authorize.net/" id="AuthorizeNetText" target="_blank">Online Payment Service</a></div>

Is there any way to run this legitimately without crashing IE? I can't seem to get help from Authorize.net so I'm hoping you guys can help out!

The answer is both. It could be that the website is not setup to support the HTTP 1.1 protocol. It could also be that the website is hosted on an Apache server that has a mod_security feature enabled that is preventing certain URL's from being accessed in certain ways.

That probably sounds a bit cryptic. In a nutshell, you can try the following to resolve the 501 or 505 error and access your web page:

Upgrade your web browser (to the latest version of Internet Explorer (8 at the time of this writing), or to Mozilla Firefox)

Change your IE settings as follows: Browse to Internet Options > Tools > Advanced. Uncheck the HTTP 1.1 box.

Try loading your web page again (refresh using the F5 key). If you're still getting the Error 501/505: Not Implemented or Not Supported error, browse to Internet Options > Tools > Advanced. Uncheck the "Show friendly HTTP error messages" box. You should not get a more descriptive error message that may give you details into which application on your PC is causing the problem.

If it turns out that a particular application is causing this error message - get in touch with the manufacturer and see if an update/ fix is available.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I'm trying to access a webpage in Internet Explorer 6 and I keep getting the following error:

Error 501/505: Not Implemented or Not Supported

I've spoken to colleagues who say they are able to access the page just fine. Is this error related to my browser or the web page?
