Tortoise SVN No Icons?

I've been running Tortoise SVN for years to keep track of changing versions of my files, and it seems that recently, the "overlay icons" have been getting worse and worse. Note the icons themselves, mind you - but the display of them.

To the point where in the last update - to Tortoise SVN version 1.6.8 (Build 19260 - 64 bit), the icons no longer appear at all. I've tried all the suggestions listed on the Tortoise website - restarting my PC, making sure the "fixed disk" option is checked in the settings - all to no avail.

I even checked the Windows registry to see if the overlay icon entries were in there - they are.

I was just about to search for an alternative SVN software, but it seems Tortoise is still the go to choice. Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I might try to get my Tortoise SVN icons back?

We had this same thing happen. Try re-installing Tortoise SVN. In other words, uninstall your existing installation, reboot your PC, and then re-install Tortoise SVN, the latest stable build.

    Did the trick for us

Another thing you can do is disable Windows file and folder indexing on your SVN folders. To do so, right-click the root folder and select "Properties." General tab > Advanced button > Uncheck "Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" under the section "Archive and Index Attributes."

    Apply and reboot.
