Is there a way to hide the welcome screen in Windows 7 - similar to how I was able to in Windows XP, so the one user on my PC (me) auto logs on? Ie. I want my PC to boot straight into Windows 7, without having to click on my username each time. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi Sally,

There is a way to do this, although we only recommend using this approach if you are the sole user on your PC in a private environment, as it can prove a security risk.

Here's how to auto login a Windows 7 user (ie. disable the Welcome Screen):

Hit the Windows Key on your keyboard (usually bottom left, between Ctrl and Alt) and hit "R". This will bring up the "Run" command screen. From here, you want to type in control userpasswords2 and hit Enter.

This will bring up a User Accounts screen with the users on your PC. Select your user, and then uncheck the box labeled "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." Make sure you do this for all users, although in this case there should only be one (you, the administrator).

Save and reboot. Windows 7 should log you in now without showing the welcome screen.

I'm amazed at how many of you idiots don't know what the welcome screen is. You're describing the LOGIN screen. The WELCOME screen says WELCOME on it and has the little flowers at the bottom.
