I'm trying to line up three windows side-by-side (horizontally) using Windows 7, so I can organize files between the three. However, whenever I reach an edge with one of the windows, it blows up and snaps into place - with a width that extends all the way across the screen and ruins my intended layout.

How do I disable this auto adjustment of windows in Windows 7?

Browse to Control Panel > Ease of Access (title of last option in Control Panel, bottom right) > under "Ease of Access Center" select "Change how your mouse works" > Under "Make it easier to manage windows" select "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of screen."

Works for me too, but it also turns off the very convenient hot key functionality for moving windows (Win + Up (maximize), Win + Down (restore or minimize), Win + Left (move to the left and use half the screen, etc..).
