Windows Default Photo Viewer

    Is there any way to set the Microsoft photo viewer as the default for .gif files? I went into Default Programs, selected the Microsoft Photo Viewer, and then chose "choose defaults for this program."

    The .gif file box was already checked as defaulting to Internet Explorer, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change this? Very annoying. The Microsoft Photo Viewer seems to work fine as the default for other image file types. It's also interesting that it doesn't show up as an option when I right-click on a .gif file and select "open with..."

    This is a strange one. I even tried right-clicking on a .gif file, selecting "Properties," and under the General tab under "Opens with: Internet Explorer" hitting the Change button and browsing for Photo Viewer. The problem is - MS Photo Viewer doesn't appear any more as an option. I could have sworn this worked in the past...

    The new changes in Windows 7 – actually, some people are downright frustrated. One group of complaints centers around the changes related to Windows Photo Viewer and Photo Gallery in fact, Windows Photo Gallery is not even part of the standard installation package of Windows 7 anymore
